I'm back from the Resort 2010 Runway Report at Neiman Marcus in Orlando's Mall at Millenia. Neimans sure knows how to stage a runway show — fabulous clothes, fabulous models, outstanding styling — and mimosas!
Best of all, the commentary was done by Ken Downing, Neiman's charming and oh-so-knowledgable fashion director (left, with Georgiana Ungaro, special events coordinator).
Dapper in a skinny Dior suit and Dries van Noten tie, Ken took to the runway with each model, right, highlighting key elements of their outfits — and charming every woman in the room in the process.
So what are trends we can look forward to in 2010?
For starters, says Ken, there's tribal fusion. And down the runway came a wonderful mix of ethnic and animal prints, kaftans, khaki shorts, safari dresses, crisp white shirts, big earrings, multiple necklaces and loads of cuffs and bracelets.
"If you're only wearing one bracelet, go home and change. You need a whole stack — plenty of arm candy," said Ken.
Also: Shorts of any length "are the new bottom."
"Shoes are moving up around the ankles." (No, not literally! There's just a lot of emphasis on the ankle area with straps, buckles and bows.)
One-shoulder dresses are still big, big, big. "I love them," Ken said. "You can dare to go bare but still feel covered up."
I really like the last image, below. An eclectic mix that includes a sequined, animal-print tunic and abstract-print pants. And talking of sequins … I'll post what Ken has to say about those, and other upcoming trends, in a short while. Got a photo shoot to run to right now.
